About the Common Neighbour quiz

Two flags, one shared border

Two countries are shown as flags. Which country shares a land border with both of them? Pick from four options; if a flag stumps you, the free hint names both countries. After each answer the map draws both shared borders, and a wrong pick is marked in red. Some pairs have more than one common neighbour, and the options never include a second right answer.

Nine hundred and thirty pairs

Every pair of countries with at least one common land neighbour is in the game: 930 pairs, built from the border data. A pair’s level is the harder of its two countries, or of its easiest answer. Easy has 100 pairs, such as France and Spain, whose common neighbour is Andorra; pairs with no shared neighbour, such as the United States and Mexico, are never asked. Medium has 297, Hard 328 and Extreme 205, where the pairs are two Central Asian or Balkan states and the answer is a third. Each level asks every pair once, ten a round, with misses returning at the end.
